Asian Heritage Row is fast becoming a hive of nightlife activity.
We love Heritage Row! We’re here three or four times a week and
have yet to become bored,” says Australian tourist Luke Pickett.
“I like it because of the people who come here. They are all
nicely dressed and it’s lovely to see friendly people who are
ready to party. It’s the most happening place in Kuala Lumpur,
and I would recommend Heritage Row to every visitor here looking
for a decent party venue,” adds the 21-year-old, who was with his
new-found friends from Dubai, Germany, Indonesia, Palestine,
Jordan and Syria.
Pickett, who has been vacationing in Malaysia for the past three
months, read about Heritage Row from local guidebooks.
“I agree with Luke,” chips in Anas Hammad, 24, from Dubai. “Heritage
Row is the most happening place in KL! I love the music here and I
love all the outlets, especially The Loft, as they know us and treat
us like VIPs.”
Pickett and Anas are among the revellers who throng Jalan Doraisamy,
or Asian Heritage Row as it is better known.
Asian Heritage Row was developed to preserve a piece of the city’s
history and is made up of a row of quaint 80-year-old, pre-war houses
that have been given a new lease on life. Located in the heart of the
city, it has gone on to become one of the trendiest strips in KL,
hosting charming restaurants and cafés, as well as trendy bars and clubs.
It is now a place to go for power lunches and dinner parties. The
place attracts its fair share of sophisticated diners and upper-class
party-goers, including celebrities, dignitaries and royalty.
Consultant Natasha Yap, 25, says she frequents the place when there
is a birthday party or a colleague’s farewell party.
“Most of my friends and colleagues like to throw events or have their
parties at Heritage Row, as there is a variety of clubs and bars to
choose from. If we get bored of one outlet, we need only walk a few
steps to another.
“It is also a good place to bring friends from overseas as they get
to experience a number of different clubs. I like Atrium the best as
it plays R&B on Friday nights, unlike most outlets that play house
music on Fridays,” she adds.
Others just come here for the music.
“I frequent Heritage Row about three times a month for the music and
the crowd,” admits Fifi Rafidah, 21, a front officer.
“I like Cynna Bar and Maison as it plays good music and is full of
people of the same age group as I am. It is easy to meet familiar
faces here as most of my friends frequent Heritage Row too.”
Lynn Lia, and twins Elle and Tiara Lis, all in their early 20s, agree
that Heritage Row is the place to go to unwind and have fun.
“It’s also a great way to exercise as we dance the night away to good
music. We usually go to The Loft as that’s where most of our friends
are,” says Elle.
The newly opened Bar Club is getting its fare share of the crowd, too.
“We renovated three previous outlets and turned it into one to create
Bar Club, which was opened last November. It consists of a restaurant,
lounge, karaoke rooms and a dance club. Response has been good as
everyone likes to check out new places,” says its 29-year old manager,
William Kee.
Mojo’s 37-year-old operations manager, who goes by the handle Bros,
says they usually get more people over the weekends.
“Our weekends are full as people come to dine, drink, dance and play
pool. We get a good mix of locals and foreigners frequenting our place
during weekdays too as we organise themed nights like Funky Night on
Thursdays.”
“I’ve been spinning here for two years and I just love the vibrant
environment,” adds Mojo’s resident deejay, Raymond Frederick, 22.
“We get the younger crowd on most nights and the older crowd on
Saturday nights.”
Deejay Victor Goh, who currently spins at Cynna with DJ Azran for
Funk Shui Night every Thursday, has been spinning around Heritage
Row since the very beginning.
“I played at one of Heritage Row’s first clubs, Bar Savanh (IndoChine),
when it first opened. I have played in all the major clubs at Heritage
Row like Bed Club, Atrium, Cynna, and Bar Blonde.
“I play a wide range of electronic music but the main sound at Heritage
Row is house. My usual audience is usually between the ages 20 and 35,
or anyone who likes house. I get satisfaction in seeing everyone having
a good time,” says the 27-year-old.
Whether you go there to dine, drink, dance or just party and have fun,
Asian Heritage Row is here to stay as one of the main entertainment
districts of the city.
