All of the outlets have been diligent in their applications of proper licenses. They each
pay government and state taxes and cumulatively provide employment to some 300 people. It
has been successful in turning a run-down area of the city into one that KL-ites can be proud
of; and it is on the map as a tourist destination for travellers to Kuala Lumpur city.
Asian Heritage Row and its various restaurants and bars have been featured many times in
several local and foreign magazines. It is often mentioned as a place not to be missed on
tourist websites such as www.virtualtourist.com and www.exploreholidays.com.au. In TIME Asia
magazine, Asian Heritage Row was described as "Colonial Cool" in the Global Adviser section.
AHR has made a mark in the local tourism trade and there are plans for more ties with the
Malaysian Tourism Board.
At the least, the establishments of Asian Heritage Row have revived an area that would have
otherwise been ignored and left unattended to. The majority of the structures along Jalan
Doraisamy just a few years ago were in depressing conditions. There has been more positive
outcome than negative to this costly private initiative. The F&B outlets are tastefully done
and it is now an area that the city and its people can be proud of.
